Anadarko Petroleum Strikes Oil in Gulf

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. announces a Gulf of Mexico discovery about 300 miles south of Galveston.
Houston-based Anadarko made the oil and natural gas discovery at the Lucius exploration well in Keathley Canyon block 875, the company said. The well encountered more than 200 feet of net pay, or rock that can deliver oil and gas to the well.
Anadarko operates the well with a 50-percent working interest. Co-owners include Plains Exploration & Production Co. and Mariner Energy.
“The Lucius discovery continues to demonstrate the tremendous value of our Gulf of Mexico portfolio,” said Bob Daniels, Anadarko Sr. Vice President, Worldwide Exploration.
The Lucius discovery was drilled to a total depth of about 20,000 feet in about 7,100 feet of water. Anadarko used the ultra-deepwater Ensco 8500 semi-submersible drilling rig.
