Broken Arrow Among 10 Best Towns for Families

Family Circle Magazine has named Broken Arrow one of the top 10 cities in America in which to raise a family.
The article, featured in the August 2008 issue, highlights cities and towns that offer quality educational and workforce opportunities, low crime rates and affordable housing.
Thousands of cities from across the nation were selected for consideration by a research firm with representatives from the finalist cities interviewed prior to a decision.
With the help of OnBoard, a New York City research firm providing real estate and demographic data, Family Circle assembled a list of 1,850 places with populations between 15,000 and 150,000 and average incomes of around $65,000. From that, 800 localities were selected based on family-friendly criteria, including cost of living, jobs and schools. The magazine also looked for “green” communities with good environmental policies and a high percentage of residents who recycle.
Family Circle then assessed which towns best met those standards and ranked them according to state, then chose the winners from the highest-rated towns in the top 10 states nationwide.
“This is truly a terrific honor,” says B.A. Mayor Wade McCaleb. “Broken Arrow is in the national spotlight once again and this is a tribute to our great citizens and our beloved city.”
Broken Arrow has received prestigious recognition in the last few years from Money Magazine, Business Week Magazine and was recently named the 22nd safest city in the nation by CQ Press.
Other towns listed in Family Circle’s ‘Top 10’ include South Burlington, Vt.; Oro Valley, Ariz.; Brunswick, Ohio; Shoreview, Minn.; Wheeling, Ill.; Rocklin, Calif.; Webster Groves, Mo.; Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; Ankeny, Iowa.
