Cherokee Nation to Contribute $11 Million for I-44 Widening

The Cherokee Nation will contribute $11 million to expedite the widening of I-44 at 193rd East Avenue in Catoosa.

The announcement was made at 10 a.m. at the northwest corner of I-44 and 193rd East Avenue in Catoosa.

The money will speed the widening by two years of the highway bridge over 193rd East Avenue and improve the intersection at Admiral Place and 193rd East Avenue.

The Cherokees will make the grant to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The combined effort will improve traffic flow, safety and economic development in the area.

Speakers were Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith and Oklahoma Department of Transportation Director Gary Ridley.
