Compact Commission Honors Environmental Projects

The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission recognized four oil and gas related projects that demonstrate superior environmental stewardship at its recent Annual meeting in Austin, Texas.
The IOGCC, the leading authority on state regulatory programs, works to ensure domestic resources can be conserved and maximized in harmony with the environment. The annual Chairman’s Stewardship Awards recognize oil and natural gas organizations that have exceeded their regular duties to protect the environment.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, Kansas Corporation Commission and ALL Consulting received the Environmental Partnership Award, which recognizes innovative projects led by non-industry organizations with the cooperation and participation of industry.
The Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association earned the Energy Education Award, which is designed to acknowledge companies that have created a program to educate the public about oil and natural gas and the hundreds of ways it affects the lives of Americans each day.
KIOGA used a large combination of public outreach tools to increase community awareness about the significance and viability of the Kansas oil and gas industry.
KIOGA also uses the program to dispel misconceptions about important environmental and economic issues.
The Major Company Award recognizes innovative projects by large oil and natural gas companies that demonstrate positive environmental stewardship and was awarded to EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc.
In 2001, EnCana acquired the leases and assumed the majority of development in the 24,000-acre Jonah Field in Wyoming that contains 13.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
EnCana demonstrated that production of natural gas in the Jonah Field could be accomplished with minimal environmental impact.
The company produced collateral material to illustrate to the public the actions being taken to best develop Jonah Field, and to provide information on proposed plans to continue responsible development.
The innovative techniques used allowed for full gas recovery, reasonable outcome-based performance objectives, and flexible management tools to maintain environmental protection.
Encore Acquisition Co. won the Independent Company Award that recognizes environmentally friendly innovative projects by smaller independents.
Encore has operations in the Rocky Mountain Region, Mid-Continent and Permian Basin. Since June of 1999, the company has been the operator of oil properties along the Cedar Creek Anticline.
From the time Encore began operation of the CCA, it has implemented one of the most aggressive oilfield re-development operations in Montana and the Williston Basin.
