Construction to Begin on Tulsa Educare II

Construction is ready to start on Tulsa Educare II, an early childhood education facility at 3420 N. Peoria Ave., adjacent to Hawthorn Elementary.
Tulsa Educare Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that provides early childhood education and care to low-income families living in Tulsa.
Whit Todd, principal at Kinslow Keith and Todd Inc., said the 30,000-SF, 16-classroom facility will have a similar function to the other Tulsa Educare facility, 2511 E. Fifth Place, but the building’s form will be distinctive.
“The design concept was try to make a statement that this was an important building with important things happening inside,” Todd said. “We’re trying to make a statement that early childhood education is important.”
“It’s a very unique, very creative design,” said Reed Woods, president of Stonebridge Group, owner’s representative and project manager. “We wanted to make sure it stood out, that it was different from anything else on that street.”
KKT handled design on the first Educare facility and will be sharing design duties on this project with RDG Planning and Design of Omaha, Neb. Crossland Construction is construction manager on the project.
Todd said, aside from its 16 classrooms, the facility will include a training center, full kitchen, family support room and general office space.
“There is also a pretty large playground zone with six age-appropriate playground areas,” Todd said.
Woods said the workers recently completed all of the drainage and dirt work for the $6 million facility, and the completion date for the facility is set at December of this year.
“It’s a very aggressive building schedule,” Woods said. “We hope to enroll students and open by January of next year.”
