First Shipment of Steel Arrives at BOk Center

Eight trucks carrying the first shipment of steel have arrived at the site of the 18,000-seat, $183 million, BOk Center. The eight arriving trucks delivered 4,000 tons of structural steel to the downtown site on Feb. 19.
Erection of the structural steel, which will stand up to 30 feet higher than the existing concrete structure, began immediately.
The steel is being manufactured by Schuff Steel Co. and was shipped from the company’s Ottawa, Kan. plant. The Phoenix-based steel company will have crews on site until early next year erecting and installing the iconic facility’s $26 million worth of steel.
Additional shipments are expected to arrive about once per week for the next six months.
