Glenpool Centennial Commission to Receive $100,000 Donation

Representatives of ConocoPhillips will present a check for $100,000 Friday to the Glenn Pool Oil Field Centennial Commission in support of a landmark to commemorate the discovery and development of the epochal oil patch. A presentation event will be held at noon, Friday, at the Glenpool city hall, 140 W. 141st St.

The landmark will be located in the city’s Black Gold park which is about 500 yards from the site of the discovery well, the Ida Glenn No. 1. Accepting the contribution will be Tim Felt, chairman of the Centennial Commission, and Shayne Buchanan, mayor of Glenpool.

Phase one of the construction is expected to be launched in early March with completion set for Nov. 1. Funds are still being sought to finalize the $600,000 project, Felt said.
