Golden Driller Decked Out for OSU-Tulsa Grads

Tulsa’s Golden Driller sports a bright, orange necktie in celebration of OSU-Tulsa’s Graduation Ceremony at the Pavilion at Expo Square tonight.
Oklahoma Speaker of the House and OSU-Tulsa alumnus Chris Benge will serve as the keynote speaker for the ceremony which begins at 7 p.m.
“We’re very proud of the achievements and success of our 2009 OSU graduates and the Golden Driller’s orange tie is a fun way to honor them,” said OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl. “We’ll consider the Golden Driller an honorary OSU graduate on Monday night.”
The Golden Driller has long been a famous figure for Tulsa. Originally built in 1953, the statue was permanently installed in front of the Expo Center for the 1966 International Petroleum Exposition. The statue stands 76 feet tall and weighs 43,500 pounds.
The Pavilion at Expo Square is in midtown at 4145 E. 21st Street.
The Golden Driller will wear the OSU tie until Tuesday.
