Ground Broken on Sand Springs Education Center

Sand Springs leaders officially broke ground on a new Early Childhood Education Center.
The center, expected to open in the Fall of 2009, will sit on about eight acres of land near the Sand Springs Lake, at 81st West Avenue and Lake Drive, on property donated to the Sand Springs School District by the Sand Springs Home.
The more than $12 million project is the district’s most expensive building project to date.
Much of the funding for the center, which will educate children from 0 to 4 years old through a partnership with the Community Action Project, came from a $6 million gift from the George Kaiser Family Foundation.
The center will replace the district’s current early childhood education center, which sits at the corner of Morrow Road and Oklahoma 97. That building that will be demolished to make way for shops and commercial development.
The city of Sand Springs bought the building from the school district recently, using funding from the Vision 2025 bond issue.
