Halt Sought on Leasing In Wyoming Range

Legislation is in doubt that could stop future oil and natural gas leasing in the forested areas of the Wyoming Range.
The legislation would not impact Williams Cos. operations, according to a company spokesman.
The author of the legislation, Sen. Craig Thomas, R-Wyo., died after a fight with leukemia that was diagnosed last year just as he was elected to a third term. He was 74.
Plans to introduce a bill this summer that would halt leasing in the western half of the state are up in the air.
Williams operates the upper northeast corner of Wyoming outside the forested lands, said Andrea Myers, Williams’ spokesman.
