Tulsa Raceway Park announced Wednesday, October 4, 2006 that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with the International Hot Rod Association to host an IHRA national event beginning in 2007. The agreement, which will run through 2011, became official Wednesday at noon.
“This is a big opportunity for us, as well as a large financial boost for Tulsa-area businesses,” Tulsa Raceway Park owner Dan Guterman said. “The area’s economic boost will only increase as we work with IHRA to build this event. This already will be IHRA’s biggest event west of the Mississippi…we look forward to making it one of the biggest anywhere.”
Dan Guterman is inviting area press and dignitaries to the offices of New Day Media, Inc. on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. where he will discuss the $30 million economic impact on the City of Tulsa and its surrounding areas. IHRA Vice President of Marketing, Jim Marchyshyn will be in attendance to discuss IHRA’s commitment to the City of Tulsa. Local and state politicians are also expected to attend the press conference and be available for questions.
“Tulsa is a great market with tremendous upside,” IHRA President Aaron Polburn said. “We are thrilled to be hosting an event in Oklahoma during the 2007 season. Dan Guterman worked hard with the Tulsa Sports Commission Executive Director, Mike Dodson to make this a reality and we are looking forward to building this event into something special.”
