Tulsa-area residents who want to learn more about the city and explore volunteer opportunities should consider participating in the upcoming Leadership Tulsa program.
Applications are now being accepted for Class 39. Leadership Tulsa serves Metro area adults from diverse professions and backgrounds that have an interest in and commitment to providing community leadership. Participants meet monthly to explore community needs, develop leadership skills and meet with community leaders. They also participate in a non profit board internship experience providing a hands-on opportunity to put their new knowledge to use. Meetings blend classroom lectures, panel discussions, interactive leadership and team-building exercises, and field trips to area businesses, government, nonprofit groups and historic sites.
Since 1973, more than 1700 people have completed Leadership Tulsa. Class size is limited to 45 members, with new classes starting every six months.
“The selection process is competitive,” Thomas says. “The selection committee makes every effort to ensure balanced representation from the community since a diversity of ideas, life experiences and viewpoints create the most beneficial climate for leadership growth.”
Deadline to apply for the 2008 program is April 30, 2008. Tuition is $2,100 and can be paid by the individual, employer or agency. Scholarships are also available.
