More Smoothies to Come to Tulsa

With Smoothie King, Jamba Juice, Sonic and, most recently, FreshBerry already in play on the fruit smoothie scene in Tulsa, Florida-based Tropical Smoothie Café sees yet more potential in the concept in Green Country. The chain aims to open 12-15 locations in northeastern Oklahoma within five years.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which was founded in 1997 and introduced food in 1999, sells a variety of real-fruit smoothies, toasted wraps, gourmet sandwiches and salads. The menu includes options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Chris Kramolis, who owns the two Tropical Smoothie Café locations in Little Rock, Ark., and serves as the brand area developer for Arkansas and Oklahoma, is scouting sites in south Tulsa and Midtown, as well as is Owasso, Bartlesville, Stillwater and Claremore. Each store will employ 12-20.
“We’re about to open our seventh store in the Arkansas market,” Kramolis said, “and now that we’re established here, I’m ready to take on northeast Oklahoma. I think Tulsa is going to eat this thing up.”
The franchise fee for the brand is $20,000, while initial start-up costs range from $235,000 to $325,000. Kramolis’ two stores boast sales figures between $650,000-$700,000 annually. An average café spans 1,200-2,400 SF.
Rated one of the fastest growing franchises by Entrepreneur Magazine, the concept currently boasts 245 locations in 31 states with four locations in India. Plans call for more than 400 locations by the end of 2008, and an additional 200 by the end of 2009. ?
