Nelson Reopens The Colony

Elliot Nelson, owner of food-and-drink destinations James E. McNellie’s Public House at 409 E. First St. and next-door The Continental, has refurbished the former IV Play bar at 2809 S. Harvard Ave. The 1,200 SF pub is slated to open on Oct. 12 as The Colony, a casual bar with British flair.
The Colony originally opened in Tulsa in the mid-’50s, Nelson said, and because a lot of Tulsans of Nelson’s father’s generation have fond memories of first drinks at The Colony, he thinks the second iteration of the bar will be a hit.
Remodeling is complete. All The Colony needs to open is a liquor license, Nelson said.
The reopening of The Colony is part of Nelson’s continuing expansion plan. A second McNellie’s will open in Oklahoma City next year, and plans for El Guapo, a rooftop Tex-Mex and Mexican food restaurant at 332 E. First St., are under way.
