New Aquarium Executive Director Named

The Jenks Aquarium Authority has voted to approve Teri Bowers as the new Chief Operating Officer/Executive Director of the Oklahoma Aquarium.
Bowers is responsible for the daily management of the Oklahoma Aquarium including budget oversight, fundraising, donor and guest relations, and strategic planning and development. Bowers joined the Aquarium staff last year as Communications Director and was named Acting COO/Executive Director in June.
One of Bowers’ first goals is to facilitate the successful Grand Opening of the Hayes Family Ozark Stream Exhibit slated for this fall. The Centennial sanctioned project highlights the Northeastern Oklahoma environment with the Aquarium’s first aquatic mammals; otters, raccoons and beavers and informative, interactive fishing features. The next major project will be raising funds to construct a one-of-a-kind exhibit for the Aquarium’s two Loggerhead Sea Turtles, not yet on public display.
Bowers is a familiar name and face in the Tulsa area. She’s an 18-year veteran of television news with 15 years at KTUL-Channel 8. Bowers is married to Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist Frank Mitchell and the couple have two children. Bowers is involved in the community through the Alzheimer’s Association, Leadership Tulsa and the United Way Board of Directors.
