Oktoberfest Attendance Calls for Encore Chicken Dance

The 2006 Oktoberfest, held Oct. 19-22 at the River West Festival Park, boasted 50,000 attendees and volunteers at the 28th annual festival that will benefit the River Parks Authority.
Corporate Night broke records with 7,500 attendees, Oktoberfest Inc. officials said, and attendance Thursday and Friday night was especially large as well. Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. was family-themed, targeted seniors and was well attended. Attendees 55 and older took advantage of free shuttle rides, and all-you-can-ride wristband specials were available to kids.
Beer and novelty items new to the festival were high in demand. Officials said beverages by Warsteiner, Sam Adams and Anheuser-Busch were especially well received, and the Oktoberfest chicken hat, as well as the kid’s “Chick” hat, were so sought after that they sold out by early Saturday.
The 2006 Oktoberfest poster by Christopher Westfall was won by Tulsan R. Conger. This was the first year the original artwork was given away in a raffle drawing.
Presenting sponsors of the festival included The News on 6-KOTV and the Tulsa World, and other financial support came from Community Bank & Trust, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc., Creek Nation Casino and others.
The 29th Oktoberfest will be Oct. 18-21, 2007, and what could be another record-breaking Corporate Night will take place on the Oct. 17. Further information on next year’s festival can be found on www.tulsaoktoberfest.org.
