Professional Tennis Returns to Tulsa

Philcrest Hills Tennis Club plays host to the USTA Challenger tournament this week.
The USTA Challenger of Oklahoma is a U.S. Tennis Association Challenger Event with players competing for $50,000 in prize money and ATP points.
The economic impact of the professional tournaments at Philcrest Hills Tennis Club from 1988 to 2008 has been $4 million, said Russell Warner, Executive Director of Philcrest Hills Tennis Club. The USTA Challenger of Oklahoma tournament is for male players ranked from 100 – 300 in the world.
From 1988 to 1998, Philcrest, 10900 S. Delaware Ave., played host to the USTA Satellite Series events consisting of the world’s top 400 – 800 ranked players. For producing excellent tournaments, the USTA awarded Philcrest the Challenger series from 1999 to 2002 and 2004 to 2009. The USTA Challenger of Oklahoma will benefit the Day Center for the Homeless and Youth at Heart.
The men’s main draw singles begins today. Doubles begins Monday afternoon. The Singles and Doubles Final begins at noon Sunday, Sept. 20.
Admission for the USTA Challenger of Oklahoma is free; there will be a drop-off area for donations (non-perishable items).
