QuikTrip sells car wash segment

QuikTrip Corp. sells its car wash operations in Glenpool and Wichita to Amarillo-based Zips Car Wash.
Financial terms were not disclosed between the privately operated companies. QuikTrip sold its Glenpool location, at 141st Street and U.S. 75, and two in Wichita.
After a lengthy test of the car wash business that reportedly performed well, QuikTrip announced last year it would halt expansion of the venture, said Mike Thornbrugh, QT spokesman.
The decision to stop the expansion of the venture was made about a year ago, Thornbrugh said. It was a business decision not based on economics.
“The car washes were successful. They were profitable. It came down to the fact that the return-on-investment was better on stores than car washes,” Thornbrugh said.
QuikTrip continues to add stores to the Tulsa market.
The chain has started construction on a larger-format store at 51st Street and 129th East Avenue and at 15th Street and Denver Avenue. Construction on a location in the Gilcrease Hills area has been delayed by the City of Tulsa and the Oklahoma Department of Transporation, Thornbrugh said.
