Southeastern Oklahoma State University now has a new logo to go with its new mascot.
The Durant school changed its mascot from the Savages to the Savage Storm after the National Collegiate Athletic Association began a push to replace mascots that may offend Native Americans.
The new logo is interlocking lightning bolts under the letters “SE” and was unveiled at a ceremony in the lobby of Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium on Thursday.
In January, University officials announced that “Savage Storm” would be the athletic department’s new nickname. Since that time, a logo committee solicited design ideas to incorporate the new name into an athletics logo.
The change will take effect immediately.
