The SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons today unveiled the new Tournament logo and announced a purse increase to $1.4 million for the annual LPGA Tour Event, scheduled for April 30 – May 6, 2007 at Cedar Ridge Country Club.
“SemGroup is committed to hosting the world’s best female golfers to a first-class experience when they come to Tulsa,” said Thomas Kivisto, president and CEO of SemGroup, L.P. “Today we start the countdown to the 2007 Tournament with unveiling the logo and announcing our purse. These are just the first steps in our journey to create, not only a very special event on the LPGA Tour, but one supported by the entire Tulsa community.”
The official purse for the SemGroup Championship is $1.4 million, $400,000 more than the 2006 purse. The winner’s share for the 2007 Tournament will be $210,000.
“This again is a significant commitment from SemGroup,” said Tournament Director Doug Eibling. “With their vision and leadership, we will work together over the next three-plus-months, and at least the next two years, to partner with the corporate community of Tulsa and engage the golf fans of Green Country.”
Last September SemGroup and Octagon, tournament managers of the SemGroup Championship, announced a two-year partnership to host the LPGA Tour annually at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow. It was then also announced that the Tournament’s previous title sponsor, John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts, LLC, would become the presenting sponsor.
Now entering its 7th year in the Tulsa area, the SemGroup Championship has quickly become one of the premier events on the LPGA Tour, annually attracting a top field of players, great crowds and tremendous community support. Cristie Kerr is the Tournament’s defending champion, defeating three-time champion Annika Sorenstam by two strokes. Gloria Park won the inaugural event in 2001, with World Golf Hall of Famer Karrie Webb winning in 2003, and Sorenstam winning in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
