Start Your Engines (Ford Lovers), Carroll Shelby is Coming to Town

We understand Tulsa Ford muscle car enthusiasts will have a chance to rub shoulders with one of the icons of American metal design and racing this summer when Carroll Shelby comes to town for the Mid America Ford and Team Shelby Nationals.
The 85-year-old Shelby has joined forces with the Tulsa gathering, making it the premiere event for his own club, Team Shelby, said Earl Groves, one of the event coordinators, who drives a ’70 Boss 302 and a 2008 convertible Shelby.
Held in Tulsa for the past three decades and based at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills, the event will run June 12-15 and opens Thursday with a Ford Mustang open track venue, sponsored by Dynatek Racing at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit.
Thursday evening, Ford enthusiasts can join in on a Cruise-in Tulsa event sponsored by Bob Hurley Ford. The cruise-in ends up at a multi-block stretch of Brookside on Peoria Avenue in front of the Sonic Drive-In.
“This year we are hoping to have about 500 cars down there – mostly Mustangs, but you will see a little of everything that is Ford powered,” Groves said. “Brookside goes crazy. They (Brookside Business Association) absolutely love it.”
Other activities include more open track opportunities at Hallett, drag racing at Tulsa Raceway Park, and a banquet attended by Carroll Shelby with more than 1,200 attendees at the Marriott Southern Hills, Groves said.
The final day opens with the All Ford Super Show, sponsored by Classic Design Concepts, also at the Marriott Southern Hills, with 400-500 cars, Groves said.
“Everybody goes home at four in the afternoon with the fun meter completely pegged,” groves said.
Since this happens to be the Hotel and Convention Centers issue of the Tulsa Business Journal, it is interesting to note that this show has sold out the Marriott Southern Hills, the Hilton Tulsa Southern Hills and is booking at the Holiday Inn Select.
