Two new Wal-Mart Supercenters will open Wednesday in the Tulsa area.
The stores are located at 6625 S. Memorial Drive near the Woodland Hills Mall and 10938 S. Memorial Drive in Bixby. The Woodland Hills Mall location is the test store for a new toy department concept, which will feature a playhouse with a 42-inch television and interactive games.
The new Bixby store will feature a fa?ade unlike others in the Tulsa area. A “multiple storefront” exterior features gabled roofs, awnings, stucco and brick.
Both 203,818 SF stores feature prototype flat screen TVs, suspended over each aisle that will serve as “navigational” signage, expanded electronics center, Tire & Lube Express, a fully-enclosed lawn and garden center, a Wal-Mart Connect Center for wireless phone sales and a branch of City National Bank.
The stores will bring about 470 new jobs to the Tulsa area. Walmart employs over 30,000 in the state of Oklahoma in 57 Supercenters, 26 Walmart Discount Stores, 15 Neighborhood Markets, eight Sam’s Clubs, and two distribution Centers. In the fiscal year ending 2006, Wal-Mart collected on behalf of the state of Oklahoma more than $424.9 million in sales taxes and paid more than $16.5 million in state and local taxes.
