Tulsa Engineer Named to National Society

Jon D. Nelson, PE, vice president of the EAS Group of Tetra Tech, was named a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
ASCE’s highest accolade, distinguished membership recognizes eminence in a branch of engineering comprised of only 198 of the Society’s 146,000 members worldwide. Nelson will be formally inducted, in honor of his leadership resulting in the new law requiring additional education for the professional practice of engineering, Oct. 29, at ASCE’s 139th Annual Civil Engineering Conference in Kansas City, Mo.
His career highlights include 12 years of service on the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, including two terms as board chairman. Nelson is an advocate of long-term change in the educational and experiential requirements for licensure of professional engineers, moving to a requirement of additional engineering education beyond the bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite for professional licensure in the future.
