Tulsa Officials to Meet with Amtrak

Tulsa officials are planning a meeting later this week with Amtrak representatives to discuss adding rail service to Tulsa.
Tulsa city officials are proposing Amtrak service from Tulsa to Oklahoma City and from Tulsa to either Kansas City or St. Louis.
In August, the Tulsa City Council has passed a resolution asking for a study on bringing Amtrak rail service to Green Country.
In the resolution, the council asked the backing of the state government in a request to Amtrak on the extension of passenger rail service to Tulsa.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is already asking Amtrak to consider extending service from St. Louis to Springfield, Mo.
Amtrak serves Oklahoma with a single train, the Heartland Flyer, which runs a daily route from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, Tex. Amtrak employs four Oklahoma residents and runs the OKC to Fort Worth route on Burlington Northern San Francisco tracks.
The Heartland Flyer had 71,045 riders in 2005.
