Tulsa Port of Catoosa Reports March Shipping

Overall shipping at the Tulsa Port of Catoosa was lower in March, despite some increases in some products commonly shipped from and to the facility.
Total inbound/outbound shipping in March was 204,750 tons, lower than the total tonnage figures for both January and February.
Shipments of steel and pipe increased in March compared to February, a shipping sector that had declined in the first two months of the year. Grain shipments also showed modest increases.
Shipments of soy and soy products, however, were lower. March totals for inbound shipping of fertilizer were substantially lower than February, and other products such as caustic soda and molasses also came into the Port in fewer quantities than the previous month.
Both inbound and outbound shipping totals were approximately 25,000 tons lower in March than in February.
“We are seeing the effects of the global economic slowdown,” said Ed Fariss, chairman of the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority. “The good news is that things appear to be looking brighter for the economy, based on recent news reports.”
The number of barges that passed through the Port in March was 118, equal to more than 7,000 semi-truck loads.
The Oklahoma section of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System also saw a general reduction in business in March. Total tonnage was 377,800, down from the previous month by approximately 75,000 tons. The Tulsa Port of Catoosa handled 54% of that total.
