District 2 Councilor Rick Westcott will host a forum on Friday, December 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Exhibit Hall A at the Tulsa Convention Center. Registration begins at 9:30.
Over 20 elected officials from Northeast Oklahoma will be in attendance. Representatives from Amtrak, INCOG, ODOT, Oklahoma Passenger Rail, and the Heartland Flyer will speak during the forum.
At 1 p.m. the Councilor and his guests will take questions from any of the attendees and press. Councilor Westcott is the author of a recent resolution passed by the Tulsa City Council that encourages a feasibility study of a passenger railway line to be conducted from Springfield, Missouri, to Tulsa.
Amtrak currently serves Oklahoma with one shorter-distance train, the Heartland Flyer, which travels daily from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, Texas. The route has been in operation since 1999, and over 68,000 passengers took advantage of this alternative mode of transportation in Fiscal Year 2006.
